Is Quinn Ewers eligible for the 2024 NFL Draft? Texas QB's career choices explored
Quinn Ewers is a player who has the potential to become a strong franchise quarterback in the NFL.
Ewers is the starting QB of a Texas Longhorns program with Arch Manning, who performed his best during the spring game on Saturday.
But, is Ewers eligible for the 2024 NFL draft?
Is Quinn Ewers eligible for the 2024 NFL draft?
Quinn Ewers is regarded as one of the strongest QBs in the 2024 class, with Caleb Williams and Jayden Daniels. He is eligible for the 2024 NFL draft and was predicted to be a top 5 pick.
But Ewers has not declared for the 2024 NFL draft. So he will not be one of the names Commissioner Roger Goodell calls out on Thursday night.
How did Quinn Ewers play in 2023?
Quinn Ewers' option to not declare for the NFL draft shocked some people, as he was set to be a strong contender for at least a top 3 pick.
Additionally, he had a promising 2023 season. Ewers led the Texas Longhorns to their final Big 12 championship before their move to the SEC. The victory also allowed Texas to qualify for the college football playoffs, where the team lost to the Washington Huskies.
Ewers threw for 3479 yards and scored 22 touchdowns this season. He had more yardage than Wolverines QB J.J McCarthy and a less than North Carolina Tar Heels QB Drake Maye had. These are the two players Ewers would have been compared to in the upcoming NFL draft.
However, it is worth noting that Ewers missed two games due to an injury. Had he played in those games, he could have had higher numbers than Maye.
Why did Quinn Ewers decide not to declare for the 2024 NFL draft?
On his decision to not declare for the 2024 NFL draft and to return to Austin, Ewers said this to ESPN:
One more year with my teammates and one more year of development with Coach Sark [Steve Sarkisian] made the most sense."
He added that he wanted to
"grow as a leader and win more games."
Ewers' decision will benefit both parties. Ewers will get one more season to develop, and the Texas Longhorns will have their reliable QB continue to mentor Arch Manning. It will also help them in their first season in the SEC, where the opposition is far tougher than the Big 12 ever was.
Do you think Ewers will be the number one pick of the 2025 NFL draft?
