"It just kinda hurt me": Travis Hunter shares his true sentiments after accepting Richard Sherman's apology

Richard Sherman recently shared his concerns over Travis Hunter's ability to manage both wide receiver and cornerback positions if he gets into the NFL. During his appearance on the "St. Brown Podcast," Sherman called Hunter’s receiving skills "bland." In response, Colorado's two-way star fired back with his comments:

"Stop speaking on me let me play football," he wrote.

However, things have settled now. Sherman took to Twitter, revealing that he had a meaningful conversation with Hunter, and thanked coach Deion Sanders for making it happen. He tweeted:

“Just had a great conversation with Travis Hunter Jr! Preciate you Deion Sanders for setting that up,” he wrote. “Huge fan of that young man and grateful to be able to clear that up.”

Hunter graciously accepted Sherman’s apology, sharing the conversation in a video:

“We talked on the phone… no negative energy,” Hunter said. “He was telling me that he watched me a lot… I grew up watching him. 49ers was my favorite team when I was growing up."

Hunter explained how much Sherman's words affected him:

“He was telling me he apologized. I accepted the apology. I ain't mean, for if I did anything wrong, its just kinda of hurt me because I look up to him. So that's pretty much what it was,” he added.

What did Richard Sherman say about Travis Hunter?

Richard Sherman sparked a new controversy after sharing his analysis of Travis Hunter's skillsets earlier this week. Sherman pointed out that Hunter may not have the size or sharp route-running skills to truly dominate as a receiver.

“I think he goes as a corner just because receivers his size… he’s not a special size, super dynamic route runner,” Sherman said.

However, this season, Buffs star Hunter has been shining on both sides of the ball. Offensively, he’s tallied 37 catches for 472 yards and five touchdowns. Defensively, he’s added 14 tackles, two pass deflections, and an interception, showing his versatility and value to the team.

Travis Hunter, who was the No. 1 overall recruit in the country, flipped his commitment from Florida State to Jackson State in 2021. His only motive behind the move was to have Deion Sanders as a mentor and that very decision seems to have brought him great success.
