"It will be anti-Deion Sanders bias": Rich Eisen drops eye-catching remark as he swoons over Travis Hunter
The Travis Hunter conversation has been an intriguing one as he has showcased his abilities to be one of the most dynamic players in college football. The Colorado Buffaloes star has been able to dominate as a wide receiver and a cornerback this season.
So far this campaign, he has 46 receptions for 561 yards (12.2 yards per catch) with six touchdown receptions. He also has 15 total tackles (10 solo, five assisted) with three pass deflections, a forced fumble and a pair of interceptions.
While discussing the Heisman Trophy conversation on his show, Rich Eisen gave his opinion that Travis Hunter should win the 2024 Heisman Trophy.
"If Travis Hunter doesn't win the Heisman Trophy, I will be stunned. It will be, and I know what I'm buying into here so pardon me, it will be anti-Deion bias ... He's playing almost every snap of the football game. His routes are second-to-none, his catching radius, his ability to make plays, and then he plays defense lights out. I swear he's going to do this in the pros. Deion is raising this young man to be a unicorn. Travis Hunter for Heisman for sure."
This is something that is going to be debated for a while and we have half the college football season remaining. If he does, he would be the first wide receiver to win the Heisman Trophy since DeVonta Smith in 2021 and the first defensive player since Charles Woodson in 1997.
What are the 2024 Heisman Trophy odds?
The Heisman Trophy odds continue to fluctuate during the season and now that we are around the halfway point, there are essentially three players that stand out. Below are the odds of the top 10 players for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, according to DraftKings Sportsbook:
- Ashton Jeantry (Boise State) +225
- Travis Hunter (Colorado) +300

- Dillon Gabrile (Oregon) +1500
- Cade Klubnik (Clemson) +1600
- Jaxson Dart (Ole Miss) +2500
- Quinn Ewers (Texas) +2000

- Shedeur Sanders (Colorado) +3500
Will Travis Hunter win the 2024 Heisman Trophy?
Travis Hunter should be able to win the 2024 Heisman Trophy if he continues to play at the level he has been performing. A major reason is the fact that the Colorado Buffaloes are playing well.
They are 4-1 (2-0 Big 12) thus far and playing a much more competitive brand of opponents than Ashton Jeantry has done with the Boise State Broncos.
It is difficult to imagine a Group of Five player winning the most prestigious individual award in college football. Hunter excels at multiple key positions and if the Buffs continue to win and become at least bowl-eligible, it will be difficult to ignore his production.
