Sophomore LSU Tigers cornerback Javien Toviano was arrested by police and subsequently suspended from the program. He turned himself in at the East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office on Sunday after being accused of video voyeurism.
The LSU Tigers football program released a brief statement regarding Javien Toviano's suspension, stating:
"The student-athlete has been suspended from all team activities, in accordance to departmental policies. We will not have further comment out of respect for the legal process."
Why was Javien Toviano arrested?
Javien Toviano was suspended by the LSU Tigers due to an arrest that happened on Sunday afternoon. The incident is a bit graphic so viewer discretion is advised.
Toviano has been charged with video voyeurism and according to the arrest report, he has been accused of hiding a video camera to record himself having sex with the victim without their consent. The victim told investigators that she located a pair of videos on his iPad and authorities added that the videos were allegedly taken on July 5 and 6 of this year.
They executed a search warrant on Toviano's iPad and discovered three videos. The arrest report also states that they were able to identify both Toviano and the victim. This is an ongoing story and details will continue to come out regarding this situation.
What does Toviano's suspension mean for the LSU Tigers?
Javien Toviano was expected to be part of the competition for the starting cornerback spot for the LSU Tigers as that has been a position of need for them this college football offseason. He had some action as a freshman and finished with 30 total tackles (19 solo, 11 assisted) with a fumble recovery and a pass deflection.
We do not yet know the extent of the suspension or if there will be jail time associated with this charge for Toviano. The LSU Tigers have to prepare as if he is no longer on the team, as it is a possible situation that could happen depending on the legal outcome.
