“[Jim] Harbaugh did it 3 years ago”: Michigan fans brush off Dan Lanning’s new drill for Oregon football
The Oregon Ducks, led by Dan Lanning, have been on a dream run in the 2024 college football season. They have yet to face a team that gets the better of them.
Lanning has a drill for his players, that aims to stimulate their senses through music. It can be seen in the below video, as the 38-year-old delivers an encouraging pep talk before defeating the Wisconsin Badgers at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison.
However, fans are not impressed, with most of them saying that this practice is nothing new. One fan tweeted,
"Yeah Harbaugh and Michigan did this 3 years ago"
"Soooo he saw Michigan do it and said hmmm seems like a good idea," said another.
Another tweeted, "This isn’t something new that a team has joined in on jump around. It’s a fun time for both sidelines."
"lol. Michigan was the first to embrace the jump around energy, 2021. Go Blue," another football fan commented.
One more said, "You may want to remove this silly post. Visiting teams have been doing this for 20 years. It’s standard practice."
"Harbaugh did it first," wrote another.
Nevertheless, Lanning deserves credit. When 2023 Heisman finalist Bo Nix transitioned to the NFL earlier this year, many thought the Ducks wouldn't be able to build upon their 12-2 season, but Lanning has done better. He's gone undefeated so far, thanks in major part to quarterback Dillon Gabriel and running back Jordan James.

Nick Saban likes Dan Lanning's discipline in Oregon
Former Alabama coach Nick Saban admired Lanning’s leadership at Oregon. Appearing on ESPN's “College GameDay” on Nov. 9, the 72-year-old college football legend lauded the Oregon coach’s approach after the Ducks dismantled the Michigan Wolverines 38-17 in Week 10.
"I like Oregon because they've played with the most consistency of any team this entire season," Saban said. “The Ducks are 11th in offense, they're 11th in defense, so they play complementary football."
Saban also praised Dan Lanning’s game sense, referencing a timeout late in the Michigan game.
"He’s not just about winning the game. He’s about defeating the other team," Saban said.
The timeout allowed players to take pleasure in their achievement of silencing the Big House crowd, a move Saban believed reiterated the Ducks’ dominance this season.
Lanning boasts a spotless 11-0 record with 12 weeks of college football played. The Ducks are flying high with the Big 10 title in sight and are chasing a CFP berth.
