LaNorris Sellers injury update: Is South Carolina QB playing today vs. Akron?

Redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers is one of the quarterbacks who has been on the injury report throughout the week. The South Carolina Gamecocks' starting QB situation this week is a bit in flux after the injury, as he was pulled from the game last weekend.

LaNorris Sellers' injury update before game against Akron

According to Matt Zenitz of 247 Sports and CBS Sports, South Carolina starting quarterback LaNorris Sellers is going to miss today's action against the Akron Zips as he recovers from an ankle injury he suffered last week.

The injury was sustained right before halftime against the LSU Tigers during his first offensive drive for the Gamecocks before being pulled for backup quarterback Robbie Ashford.

On Thursday, coach Shane Beamer discussed LaNorris Sellers' ankle sprain and made it known that it would be a game-time decision:

"Certainly, last Saturday was a physical game and we had some guys that had some wear and tear, certainly, and normal bumps and bruises; we'll see as we get here to Saturday. LaNorris, speaking to him specifically, he's done a little more in practice each day this week... so we'll see how he is on Saturday, but he's progressing nicely." h/t On3

However, it appears that despite the progression of LaNorris Sellers' ankle sprain, the team does not want to risk having a compromised quarterback on the field. Instead, backup quarterback Robbie Ashford could start for South Carolina in Week 4.

LaNorris Sellers' stats playing for the Gamecocks

Redshirt freshman LaNorris Sellers is in his first season as the starting quarterback for the South Carolina Gamecocks after being the backup last year to Spencer Rattler.

He has struggled under center a bit this season as he has gone 29-of-53 (54.7%) for 393 yards with two passing touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

However, he has been a significant force in the running game, as he has 45 rushing attempts for 145 yards (3.6 yards per carry) with four rushing touchdowns as well.
