"Let that sink in": Hugh Freeze's record gets dragged through the mud with Bryan Harsin comparison by CFB analyst
Hugh Freeze's Auburn Tigers suffered a 17-7 defeat against Vanderbilt in Week 10 on Saturday, which was their sixth loss of the season. With Freeze on the hot seat, his record at Auburn has garnered some unwanted attention.
On Monday, college football analyst Tom Luginbill compared Freeze's record to his predecessor Bryan Harsin.
"Right now, Hugh Freeze has a worse record than Bryan Harsin. Let that sink in." Luginbill said, via the "The Next Round" podcast.
"I know Auburn fans are frustrated, but it doesn’t seem to be the same vitriol."
Harsin was appointed as Auburn's coach on Dec. 22, 2020. In his first season, he led the team to a 6-7 record, the program's worst run since 2012. The Tigers also lost the Birmingham Bowl against Houston.
In 2022, the Tigers had an underwhelming start, going 3-5 in the opening eight games. He was fired on Oct. 31, finishing with a 9-12 record in just under two seasons.
Meanwhile, Freeze has a 9-13 record since taking charge on Nov. 29, 2022.
In his first season, Auburn finished 6-7 (3-5 Southeastern Conference), losing the Music City Bowl against Maryland. This campaign, Auburn has a 3-6 record (1-5 SEC).
Hugh Freeze's Auburn will aim to finish the 2024 season on a high
Despite a disappointing run so far, the Auburn Tigers will aim to close the regular season on a high. They have three games remaining, including two opponents who are in the AP Poll's Top 15.
Aurbun has an open week this week but will resume action against ULM (5-3, 3-2 Sun Belt Conference) on Nov. 16. The Tigers will then host No. 15 Texas A&M (7-2, 5-1 SEC) on Nov. 23 before traveling to face No. 11 Alabama (6-2, 3-2 SEC) on Nov. 30.
