"Like he loved Jackson State?": CFB fans react to Deion Sanders' reaction to latest Cowboys coaching rumors
Deion Sanders isn't letting the rumors about him potentially joining the Dallas Cowboys distract him, and he definitely knows how to handle a bit of media teasing.
During an appearance on Fox Sports' "Speak" on Tuesday, Sanders' former teammate, Michael Irvin, couldn't resist bringing up the speculation. However, Coach Prime stuck to his earlier promise of not entertaining the idea of making a move to the NFL.
Irvin hinted that Jerry Jones might be interested in someone like Sanders in Dallas. Rather than give a direct answer, the Colorado Buffaloes coach simply picked up his laptop, gestured toward his view of Folsom Field and calmly reiterated:
“I love it where I am.”
That’s Coach Prime for you — loyal to his Buffs. Fans had mixed reactions when the video hit X. While some voiced concerns over the circulating rumors, others pointed back to Sanders' time at Jackson State, recalling similar statements he made before eventually leaving.
"Like he loved Jackson State...Until he didn't?" a fan wrote.
"We heard this all year at Jackson, his final year," another commented.
"I’m tired of hearing those fake rumors," a disgusted fan noted.
"I would LOVE him in Dallas, but I love what he brings those kids in Boulder more. And Jerry still hasn’t been humbled. He needs to fall further," an appreciating fan wrote.
"We need “I love it where I am” shirts," a follower noted.
"If u do leave Michigan is waiting for ya GO BLUE," a user wrote.
Coach Prime has reiterated time and again that he is and will remain committed to Colorado until he delivers on his promise to elevate the CU program to the top ranks of college football. With two years of hard work, he’s got the team sitting strong at 7–2 in the Big 12.
Meanwhile, as his sons, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders, wrap up their college careers, speculation about his future will likely continue into 2025. For now, Coach Prime is fully focused on Boulder, soaking in every moment as he continues to build something special.
Deion Sanders’ reasons for not choosing the NFL over CFB from the past
Deion Sanders isn’t swayed by the glitz of an NFL coaching job, and he has some firm reasons for this. While many would assume his iconic NFL career might make him eager to coach in the league, Coach Prime has openly shared why he’s sticking to college football.
Speaking on “The Rich Eisen Show” in September 2023, Sanders explained that he loves working with college athletes because “young men are still impressionable.”
“At the next level, some of these guys make so much money they can’t hear or see the things that they need to see," Sanders said. "I would have difficulty motivating a man who makes upwards of 20, 30, and sometimes 40 million dollars. I got a problem with that.”
For Coach Prime, college players aren’t weighed down by the enormous contracts that he believes can make it tough for pro players to stay open to coaching.
However, Sanders didn't hold back on the challenge of coaching someone earning millions. He even joked that if he had an NFL team, he might start with a full roster but would likely end up with far fewer by halftime.
