"Longest TD run in Manning family history": Former NFL star fired up as Arch Manning leads the show after Quinn Ewers' injury scare
Arch Manning took over from Quinn Ewers as Texas' quarterback after the latter was taken off the field during the second quarter of the Longhorns game against UTSA. Manning quickly got into the rhythm of things, scoring a 19-yard touchdown pass in his first play of the game.
However, something more impressive lay ahead in his second drive of the game. Arch Manning scored a 67-yard rushing touchdown, which some argue has to be the longest in the career of any Manning.
Neither of his uncles, Peyton and Eli Manning, were known to be dual-threat quarterbacks. It seems that Arch is bringing a new level of athleticism to the Manning family legacy. Although his grandfather Archie Manning did record 2197 rushing yards in his NFL career.
Fox Sports analyst and former linebacker Emmanuel Acho was one of the first to react, tweeting:
"This has to be the longest touchdown run in Manning Family history! Arch got all the athleticism!"
Another fan pointed out that Arch is the fastest of the Manning's:
"It was most defenatly the fastest Manning scamper of all time."
He left some UTSA defensive players in ridicule:
"Took a man’s ankles in front of 90k+. Yikes."
Someone reminded fans that Arch's father, Cooper Manning was a wide receiver. They also pointed out that his grandfather did know what running was as he was forced to do so in a bad Saints team.
What was Quinn Ewers's injury?
During the halftime break, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian described Quinn Ewers's injury as a strained abdomen. Ewers left Manning with a comfortable lead of 21-0, after throwing for 185 yards, with one touchdown and an interception.
Arch Manning's numbers against UTSA
Arch Manning has thrown for 223 yards, with four touchdown passes. To that, we have to add the 53 rushing yards, and the 67-yard rushing touchdown. Manning was sacked once by UTSA, which explains the loss of yards. Early in the fourth quarter, Arch Manning and the Longhorns lead 49-7.
