Here's a closer look at five potential landing spots for Malachi Fields via the transfer portal.
5 potential Malachi Fields landing spots via transfer portal
#1. Penn State Nittany Lions
While the Penn State Nittany Lions have been elite on both sides of the football in 2024, they haven't received much production from the wide receiver position and could use an upgrade. Marques Hagans, who serves as their wide receiver coach, previously held the same role for the Cavaliers and played a key role in Fields' recruitment. He could look to lure the wide receiver to a perennial contender.
#2. Michigan Wolverines
The Michigan Wolverines are expected to be in the market for a wide receiver as they received virtually no production from the position in 2024. Malachi Fields would provide them with a proven commodity in their wide receiver room as they look to attract a quarterback via the transfer portal to bridge the gap to five-star 2024 recruit Bryce Underwood.
#3. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are another team that is headed to the College Football Playoff but did not receive much production from their wide receiver room. Notre Dame figures to be aggressive as they look to find a solution to that problem.
Fields would have led the team in each of the major receiving categories. Marcus Freeman and his staff also got a first-hand look at Fields' ability as he hauled in four passes for 81 yards against a Fighting Irish defense that ranked third in opponent's points per game and opponent's passing yards per game.
#4. Ohio State Buckeyes
The Ohio State Buckeyes are different from each of the previous teams listed as they received plenty of production from the wide receiver position. While Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate figure to be back with the program as they are not draft-eligible, they will need to replace Emeka Egbuka's production. Malachi Fields could provide them with a proven commodity to supplement their two returning wideouts.
#5. Colorado Buffaloes
The Colorado Buffaloes figure to lose plenty of talent at the wide receiver position. While many believed that Deion Sanders would leave the head coaching position following the departure of his sons, that does not appear to be the case.
Instead, the Buffaloes will likely be active in the transfer portal, once again. Malachi Fields represents a proven talent that can come in and immediately produce.
