Maryland car accident: What happened to former FSU CB AJ Lytton? Latest updates around the incident explored
Former Florida State Seminoles and Penn State Nittany Lions cornerback AJ Lytton was among the three people who were killed in a Maryland car accident on Saturday morning. Along with him, Khyree Jackson and Isaiah Hazel, two cornerbacks, were also killed in the crash.
Lytton played three seasons of college football as he was part of the Seminoles from 2018-19. He did not play during the 2020 college football season but would play for the Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2021 college football season.
From his three years on the field, he finished with 29 total tackles (22 solo, seven assisted) with a pair of pass deflections, a forced fumble and an interception. Sadly, his life and career were cut short by the tragedy that occurred on Saturday.
Let's look at exactly what happened in the Maryland car crash that led to the death of three former college football players.
What happened to cause the Maryland car accident?
The Maryland car accident involved three cars. AJ Lytton, Khyree Jackson (2024 fourth-round NFL Draft pick) and Isaiah Hazel (Charlotte 49ers defensive back) all lost their lives in the incident.
ESPN's Kevin Seifert posted the news release from the Maryland State Police, where they detailed their findings surrounding the car crash.
The crash occurred around 3:00 AM local time on Saturday morning and involved three cars. The three football players were in a maroon Dodge Charger while there was an Infinity Q50 and a Chevrolet Impala also involved.
Below are the findings of the police during their preliminary investigation. All charges are pending at this moment.
"The preliminary investigation indicates the driver of the silver Infiniti, later indentified as Cori Clingman, was traveling northbound on Route 4/Pennsylvania Avenue in Prince George's County.
"Investigators believe Clingman attempted to change lanes while driving at a high rate of speed when she struck the Dodge Charger and then struck the Chevrolet Impala. The Charger subsequently traveled off of the roadway and struck multiple tree stumps where the vehicle came to rest."
The investigators also believe that alcohol may have been a cause behind the Maryland car crash. As more details come out surrounding the investigation, we will learn exactly what happened.
Sadly, both Jackson and Hazel were pronounced dead at the scene. Lytton would be pronounced dead later by hospital personnel.
