Michigan vs Texas is just around the corner. The details for one of 2024's most intriguing non-conference matchups have been announced. The Wolverines and the Longhorns, long two of the national powerhouses of college football, will battle in the second week of the season.

Michigan and Texas will play each other on Saturday, Sept. 7 at noon ET/9 a.m. PT. The game will be broadcast on FOX and streaming options will include Sling and FUBO.

The game will be played at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor. It was scheduled as part of a home-and-home series and a return game is set for Austin in 2027. Originally, the 2024 game was to be the one to take place in Texas, but the schools agreed to flip the dates last year.

The two schools have only played once before, on Jan. 1, 2005, in the Rose Bowl. Texas was 10-1 heading into the game and was ranked No. 6 in the AP poll. Michigan was 9-2 and ranked No. 13 heading into the game.

Texas QB Vince Young was the star of the Longhorns' 38-37 victory. Young passed for 180 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed for 192 more yards and four touchdowns. Michigan was led by QB Chad Henne's 227 yards and four passing scores.

The Wolverines took a late lead after a field goal, 37-35. But Texas and Young drove downfield. The Longhorns managed a 37-yard field goal by Dusty Mangum to win the game in the last play.

Michigan vs Texas football history

The battle between Michigan and Texas pits two top teams in college football history. The Longhorns have the all-time win record with 1,004 victories, while the Wolverines are fourth on the list with 948 wins.

The Wolverines claim a dozen national titles, although only two have come since 1948. The Wolverines won the College Football Playoff in 2023 and claimed the 1997 national title after besting Washington State in the Rose Bowl.

Michigan also boasts 45 conference titles, 88 consensus All-Americans and a trio of Heisman Trophy winners. The Heisman winners are Tom Harmon (1940), Desmond Howard (1991) and Charles Woodson (1997).

Texas has four national titles, winning in 1963, 1969, 1970 and 2005. The 2005 title was won when the Longhorns and Vince Young upended USC in the Rose Bowl 41-38 on Jan. 4, 2006.

Texas has 33 conference titles and 63 consensus All-Americans. A pair of Longhorns have won the Heisman Trophy: Earl Campbell in 1977 and Ricky Williams in 1998.
