The Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide 40-35 in the most impressive upset of the last decade. The win was the first by the Commodores against a top-ranked AP Poll team in the history of the program and their first over Alabama since 1984.

The loss also ranks as the worst by the Crimson Tide since their loss to Louisiana Monroe in Nick Saban's first season in Tuscaloosa.

It was one of the most exciting wins for Vanderbilt's quarterback, Diego Pavia. Over 70 members of Pavia's family were at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville to watch him take down the No. 1 team in the nation. The signal-caller recorded 252 yards, threw two touchdowns and had 56 rushing yards.

After the game, he spoke with the SEC Network and said:

"Games like this change your life, you know what I mean? It's all about hype nowadays, and I don't like it like that, but it's a reality of NIL and all that stuff.

"But just staying grounded, stay where my feet are and every single day, tomorrow we got to work on Kentucky."

Pavia's reading of the Crimson Tide's defense was key for Vanderbilt's win, with him escaping pressure numerous times, including in the last drive with 2 minutes left in the fourth quarter. His orchestrating of the Commodores' offense was key for them to hold possession for 42 minutes to Alabama's 17. They also doubled the Tide's total rushing yards, with 166 to 84.
