After allowing 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter, Georgia Tech responded with a last-minute touchdown to deny an NC State comeback and secure a 30-29 win over the Wolfpack.

NC State vs. Georgia Tech: Game Summary

After punting on each of their first two possessions, Georgia Tech linebacker E.J. Lightsey grabbed an interception, returning it 21 yards for a touchdown to give the Yellow Jackets a 7-0 lead with seven minutes remaining in the opening period.

The Wolfpack bounced back with a nine-play, 75-yard touchdown drive capped off by a 16-yard scamper to the endzone from CJ Bailey to tie the game at 7-7 going into the second quarter.

On their ensuing drive, the Yellow Jackets mustered a 44-yard field goal to take a 10-7 lead in the opening minutes of the second quarter. Georgia Tech forced a punt and kicked a second straight field goal to take a 13-7 lead at halftime.

The Yellow Jackets scored the lone points of the third quarter with a 45-yard field goal to take a 16-7 lead into the final period. Eyeing a comeback, the Wolfpack answered on the ensuing drive with a seven-play, 75-yard drive capped off by a 28-yard scamper to the endzone by CJ Bailey. NC State cut the lead to 16-14 in the opening moments of the fourth quarter.

The two offenses exchanged a punt and interception apiece before Georgia Tech capitalized with a touchdown run from Haynes King, extending their lead to 23-14. NC State answered with a six-play, 75-yard touchdown drive capped off by a short run from Bailey to cut the Yellow Jackets’ lead to 23-21 with four minutes left to play.

After forcing a punt, the Wolfpack carried their momentum into the ensuing drive, capitalizing with a 53-yard touchdown scamper from Hollywood Smothers, giving NC State a 29-23 lead after a two-point conversion with just 1:30 remaining.

Georgia Tech marched 75 yards in just over one minute to take a 30-29 lead with just 22 seconds left after an 18-yard touchdown run from Aaron Philo.
