"Next star QB"; "Terrible fit": CFB fans stand divided as Kaidon Salter commits to Colorado, joining Julian Lewis in Coach Prime's QB room
Kaidon Salter initially joined the Tennessee Volunteers as a four-star prospect in the 2021 recruiting class. After being dismissed from the program ahead of his true freshman season, he wound up joining the Liberty Flames via the transfer portal.
He appeared in 35 games, making 29 starts, during his four years with the Flames. Salter has thrown for 5,887 yards, 56 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. He completed 58.7% of his pass attempts while adding 2,013 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on 351 carries. Following the 2024 season, Salter entered the transfer portal with one year of eligibility remaining.
On3 Sports reported on Wednesday that he will be joining the Colorado Buffaloes, where he will compete with Julian Lewis to replace Shedeur Sanders as the starting quarterback.

Fans shared their reaction to the signing. One fan believes that it is a good fit:
"Good spot for him! He should be their next star QB!! Best of luck to the former Vol!"
Another sees things differently though:
"Terrible fit I’m afraid."
A fan suggested that Julian Lewis will not be happy about the signing:
"Juju Lewis left USC js to be backup to kaidon salter holy s**t wat a year 2025 abt to be."
Another predicted that Lewis could enter the transfer portal after just one season:
"If Juju isn’t playing Day 1, idk if he’ll be around for year 2"
One fan labeled Salter as a perfect bridge quarterback:
"Perfect bridge QB for juju. Juju can learn under him and then start his 2nd season. Love this."
Another compared the situation to the Texas Longhorns, who have quarterbacks Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning on the roster:
"Remember what happened in Texas between A Manning & Ewers? Its about to unfold in Colorado!!"
Deion Sanders will look to unlock Kaidon Salter's previous form
Despite leading the Liberty Flames to an 8-3 record, Salter is coming off of somewhat of a down season. Deion Sanders and his staff will look to unlock the transfer quarterback's previous form from the 2023 season. During that impressive year, Salter led the program to a 13-1 record – with their lone loss coming to the Oregon Ducks in the Fiesta Bowl.
The former four-star prospect threw for 2,876 yards, 32 touchdowns and six interceptions, completing 61.0% of his passes while adding 1,089 rushing yards and 12 touchdowns on 163 carries. Salter was named the Conference USA MVP and Conference USA Championship Game MVP.
He will have big shoes to fill following Shedeur Sanders' looming departure to the NFL. If "Coach Prime" can unlock Salter's 2023 form, however, the Buffaloes may not see much of a drop-off under center.
