NFL vet makes his feelings known about Beau Pribula's decision to enter the transfer portal ahead of Penn State's playoff game

Beau Pribula has left the Penn State Nittany Lions ahead of the school's participation in the College Football Playoff. The Penn State backup quarterback jumped into the transfer portal, leaving James Franklin without an important piece to play his dual-quarterback system during the key postseason encounters.

While Drew Allar plays most of the Nittany Lions' offensive snaps, Pribula plays a considerable wildcat role.

Former Dallas Cowboys linebacker Bobby Carpenter seemed displeased with Pribula's decision. He expressed his opinion on Monday's edition of the "Bobby Carpenter Show," where he highlighted how this could derail the plans for offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki.

It goes without saying that this puts the offense at a great disadvantage if anything were to happen to Allar.

James Franklin opens up about Beau Pribula's decision to leave Penn State

If someone seems understanding of the decision taken by Beau Pribula, it's head coach James Franklin. The coach spoke about it in Tuesday's press conference, clarifying details for the fans and the world of college football in general:

“In my opinion, he’s a man’s man,” Franklin said of Beau Pribula. “Like came into my office, had multiple conversations with me about this process. We talked last week, had no intentions of leaving, but we’ve got problems in college football.
“And I can give you my word: Beau Pribula did not want to leave our program. And he did not want to leave our program until the end of the season. But the way the portal is, and the timing of it, and the way our team is playing, and when you play the position of quarterback and there’s only one spot and those spots are filling up, he felt like he was put in a no-win situation. And I agree with him.”

No. 6 Penn State plays against No. 11 SMU next, in a Saturday noon ET game that's part of the first round of games for the College Football Playoff. The game will be played at Beaver Stadium, due to the Nittany Lions being the higher-ranked school, and it will air on TNT. At the moment, Penn State is an 8.5-point favorite.
