Kristen Saban spends more time with retired Nick Saban

Kristen Saban has often had to share her father with the various programs that he has coached during the duration of her lifetime. His busy schedule often intruded on family time by the coach's own admission.

During a recent interview on WVTM13, Kristen revealed the upside of her father's retirement vis-a-vis family time.

"I get him on the phone this time, before, when he was in the office, I would be lucky if I would get him," Kristen said. "He said we got to go play golf, and I am making some new friends down here."

The charismatic coach played things close to the vest in regards to his retirement, often hinting at it but never going through with it. One of the people who was caught by surprise when Nick Saban finally decided to retire was his daughter, Kristen Saban!

On an appearance on the 'Next Round' podcast, Kristen revealed the surprising manner in which she found out about her dad's retirement.

“So that morning, I kind of got a little heads up," Kristen Saban said. "My mom was like, ‘You know, maybe. Maybe not. But don’t be surprised if you see something’. And later that afternoon, I was on a plane to Orlando with my son to go to Disney World, and I had just bought the Southwest Wifi. And my phone is just blowing up. And I’m like, ‘Oh my God, what’s going on?’
“I’m on the plane. I can’t text anybody. I can’t call anybody. And so I’m like, ‘OK, are you doing this? Am I finding out on Instagram on my way to Disney World?'"

Kristen Saban revealed on Instagram that she and her family would continue to stay in Tuscaloosa despite her father's retirement. She has continued to immerse herself into the community with her father's 'Nick's Kids' Foundation. She has also continued to be an Alabama Crimson Tide diehard fan by attending games at the Bryant-Denny Stadium.
