Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin gives his assessment of Taylor Swift's TTPD album: "I still like it, but maybe not as much"

Taylor Swift is one of those pop stars who have instantly connected with her fans; Ole Miss HC Lane Kiffin is one such fan. But when asked if he listened to Swift's latest album, "The Tortured Poets Department," and what he thinks of her most recent work, he expressed other thoughts.

"I would say this: It’s a much different album, in my opinion, than her previous music. I say that as, I still like it, but maybe not as much. I understand why other people do. I think it’s a little more sophisticated – a lot of depth in the songs," Kiffin said in an exclusive interview with the Clarion Ledger.

"I understand why people like, but a lot of times when I listen to it, it’s either on a playlist for the yoga classes in the morning, or it’s on the loudspeakers during pickleball. So, it kind of doesn’t fit as much into that, because it’s not as upbeat, where her older stuff is more upbeat. Everybody knew the words and stuff. It’s just very different that way."

Lane Kiffin connects the most with one of Taylor Swift's songs

In the same interview, Kiffin said his favorite song from the TTPD album is "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys." The head coach said he sees a parallel between his life and the subject in Swift's song.

"It might be similar to my life’s path."

The song talks about a "boy" who breaks his "favorite toys."

“My boy only breaks his favorite toys. I'm queen of sandcastles he destroys."

The song continues:

“There was danger in the heat of my touch. He saw forever, so he smashed it up.”

Lane Kiffin was the coach of the Oakland Raiders and then the University of Tennessee, but he left the Vols job to become the OC at USC. However, he was fired from the job, and his marriage ended in divorce. Although Taylor's song ends with a crushed hope, Lane Kiffin successfully built himself up and is entering year five as the head coach of the Rebels.
