Pat McAfee expected to make College GameDay return amid rumors of potential contract negotiations: REPORTS
The entire College GameDay cast has been booked to return for the 2024 college football season, except one man: Pat McAfee. He joined the cast last season and currently is not under contract to return for the upcoming season.
However, it is now believed that he is going to be returning to the College GameDay crew every Saturday during the college football season.
In a Q&A with The Athletic, ESPN's president of content Burke Magnus discussed the possibility of McAfee returning to Saturday morning's edition of the program.
"Yeah, I presume he will [return to College GameDay]. What Andrew (Marchand) reported is technically true relative to ink on a piece of paper. But, as you know in our world, it's a fairly common situation to have reached an agreement without an executed contract or piece of paper."
One thing that McAfee is known to do is to keep the door open on things and not officially signing the contract. However, it all depends on what the media star is willing to do.
"I think from time to time, Pat likes to just muse on what he may or may not want to do. We're not in the business of handcuffing anybody to a table. This is not unique to Pat. If somebody comes to us and says, 'Hey, I'd rather do this or that instead of that,' we'll listen and have those conversations. But Pat, I expect to be there on College GameDay.'" h/t On3
Pat McAfee has certainly kept his plate full with his work commitments. He is one of the leading commentators on WWE Monday Night RAW, as well as the host of a daily sports talk show.
Where will College GameDay be to begin the college football season?
One thing that College GameDay does is keep things fresh. So, if a matchup is attractive on paper but then loses its intrigue for whatever reason, they will switch it up. However, the first two editions of the show are already locked in.
The first episode from the 2024 college football season will be on August 24 from Dublin, Ireland, as the Florida State Seminoles and the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets face off.
The following week will see the crew head to College Station as the irish-football" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" data-is-sponsored="false">Notre Dame Fighting Irish take on the Texas A&M Aggies.
