Pat McAfee sets expectations straight for Travis Hunter & Ashton Jeanty as Heisman battle intensifies

Boise State’s Ashton Jeanty and Colorado’s two-way sensation Travis Hunter have emerged as two favorites for the Heisman Trophy race as we enter Week 7 of the 2024 college football season.

On “The Pat McAfee Show,” McAfee weighed in on the heated battle, setting expectations straight for both players.

Jeanty, the current betting favorite at +225, has lit up the gridiron with over 1,000 rushing yards on fewer than 100 carries, earning comparisons to legendary Oklahoma State running back Barry Sanders. However, McAfee pointed out the difficulty for Jeanty to win the Heisman, saying:

“To get the Heisman as running back is obviously going to be very difficult in this quarterback world that we're in. If he goes over 2000 [yards], we just assume that he would get it if he did that. Melvin Gordon went in for over 2000 with Wisconsin back in the day, like 2600-2700 total yards... When Gordon did that, he did not win the Heisman.”
"So we all assume that if he goes over 2000 [yards], that'll probably solidify Heisman because that's insane. It has happened in the past and it's [2000 yards] has not won the Heisman.”

Meanwhile, Hunter’s odds stand at +300. The Colorado star has been a game-changer on both sides of the ball, and McAfee believes Hunter’s versatility gives him a real shot at the Heisman. He stated:

“If Hunter keeps playing 150 snaps a game and leads Colorado to more wins, he could pull off something truly special.”

As the Heisman race intensifies, all eyes are on Jeanty and Hunter to see who will rise above the competition.
