Paul Finebaum slams Kirby Smart for his latest comments in front of SEC commissioner

Paul Finebaum is not on board with Georgia's Kirby Smart on his criticism of the SEC scheduling policy. Following the Bulldogs' 22-19 victory over Texas in the SEC Championship game, Smart was asked what it meant to secure a spot in the upcoming College Football Playoff.

The answer included a passive-agressive comment towards SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, who was standing nearby.

"It means rest for a team that Greg Sankey and his staff sent on the road all year long, we get to take a little bit of a break and get ready for the College Football Playoff. This team needs some rest mentally, needs a little time off."

Finebaum, a college football analyst for ESPN, felt Smart's comment was in bad taste.

“I think everybody knows my affinity for Kirby Smart, but I, frankly, thought he was out of line for blasting the commissioner standing right next to him, presenting the trophy,”
“What was the point of taking a cheap shot at the commissioner of the SEC who did not do that schedule? By the way, on Wednesday night, you’re going to see next year’s schedule and it’s going to be the reverse of that. It’s still the same schedule, but the home games.”
“For Kirby Smart, who rarely makes an error, I thought it was really below the belt. Can you not say that without calling out the guy next to you who’s handing out the championship trophy?"

Looking at the Bulldogs postseason opening matchup

The Georgia Bulldogs don't know who they will face yet, although they do know when they play next. They will play on Jan. 1 in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. The bowl will be one of the quarterfinals of this year's College Football Playoff, and it will pit Smart's men against the winner of the first-round game between Notre Dame and Indiana.
