Peyton Manning reveals why Arch Manning chose Texas to play college football
Arch Manning saw some playing time in Texas' blowout win in the season opener versus Colorado State last weekend. Manning entered the game in the second half with the Longhorns up 31-0.
Arch Manning completed five of his six pass attempts for 95 yards and threw his first collegiate touchdown with around two minutes left in the third quarter. He added another touchdown on the ground to extend Texas' lead to 52-0. Manning showed flashes of his immense potential and let everyone know why he was the No. 1 ranked player in the Class of 2023.
Some expected Manning to transfer after Texas' starting quarterback Quinn Ewers announced he would be returning for his final year in the offseason. Instead, Manning stayed loyal to the school he committed to and will take over the offense next season. Manning's uncle, Peyton, revealed the factors that led Arch to choose and remain at Texas on Friday's episode of "The Pat McAfee Show."
"Most kids probably wouldn't have stayed in that situation," Manning said. "He went to Texas because he wanted to play at Texas.... He wanted to play for [Steve Sarkisian]. Those are the right reasons you should choose a college. I'm glad he's staying there. He and [Quinn Ewers] have a great relationship."
Manning will enter his redshirt sophomore season as the starter for the Longhorns barring injury to Quinn Ewers this season.
Former Texas QB Colt McCoy praises Arch Manning following season debut
Manning impressed in his season debut with a strong second-half performance, displaying poise in the pocket and mobility to escape when the pocket breaks down.
Former Texas quarterback and two-time All-American Colt McCoy spoke highly of Arch Manning after the redshirt freshman's two-touchdown season debut on Wednesday's episode of "The Triple Option."
"I think Arch Manning is the real deal (47:01 mark)," McCoy said on the show. "The kid works really hard. He's really smart and I think it's a credit to him for sticking around and redshirting and buying his time to be the starter at Texas."
Colt McCoy previously called Manning's decision to stay at Texas an "advantage" when discussing the redshirt freshman back in June.
Manning will have the opportunity to lead the Texas offense under Steve Sarkisian in 2025 and is expected to break out as a star for the Longhorns next season.
