"Playing with fire": Kirby Smart's Georgia gets a stern warning from CFB insider on Carson Beck's flaw
Kirby Smart has had an exceptional run as head coach of the Georgia Bulldogs, consistently developing some of the most formidable defenses in college football.
While offense is not a huge part of his coaching background, he has produced some dynamic scoring operations that have led him to win two college football national championships. But he's had some issues with the quarterback position. Carson Beck has been inconsistent this season.
CFB insider & Fox Sports' Joel Klatt noticed that Beck was the weak link of the team.
"If Beck plays poorly against a competent offense, watch out," Klatt said. "They are playing with fire...11 interceptions in the last five games. You can't do that, as great as their defense is."
Georgia's playoff chances & upcoming games
Ole Miss is up next for Georgia, who have come back strong after the LSU loss. They put up 63 points in their most recent win against the Arkansas Razorbacks. The Jaxson Dart-led offense looked quite dominant.
Klatt believes that the upcoming matchup could be a real challenge for Carson Beck and his team.
"If (Beck) goes out and throws three picks against Ole Miss, Ole Miss might have a three touchdown lead," Klatt said.
"You give them a couple of short fields and put your defense in a bad position, that's unsustainable. Do I think Georgia is the best team in the SEC? Yes. Do I feel confident that they'll even get to the SEC Championship game? Not really," he added.
After Ole Miss, Georgia only has one more ranked opponent left on their schedule in No. 7-ranked Tennessee. They will need to do everything in their power to keep a second loss off their resume.
If both the Bulldogs and Alabama Crimson Tide end with two losses, Georgia's playoff aspirations could change real quick.
