"Quinn Ewers has entered the portal": Texas world moves past its old leader after Arch Manning takes his first-ever SEC dub
The growing debate on who's the better signal-caller between Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning for the Texas Longhorns came to the fore again in Week 5. This time, the younger quarterback showed his prowess in the absence of the senior quarterback.
Ewers, who continues to stay sidelined with an abdominal strain, watched Manning lead the Longhorns to a 35-13 their first-ever SEC win against the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
Arch Manning led his team from the front, passing for 324 yards and two touchdowns on a highly efficient pass completion rate (26 of 31). He also rushed for 33 yards on six carries while rushing for a score.
This led the college football world to be bullish for Manning to continue starting games for the Longhorns whether or not Ewers is available.
"This kid is on fire this year 🔥" one fan commented.
"He gon Be Legendary 🎯" another wrote.
"Quinn Ewers has entered the portal," said one fan, predicting Ewers' future amid Arch Manning's rise.
Another fan was already predicting a bright future for Manning at the next level along with a GIF of Arch doing a quick celly with a teammate.
"Future of the NFL 🐐🐐"
The praise for Arch Manning continued on the internet.
"CHEF MANNING WAS COOKING 🔥" another posted.
"What an incredible achievement for Arch Manning and Texas. Leading the team to their first SEC win is no small feat," another posted.
With the win, Steve Sarkisian's unit improved to 5-0 while adding a positive headache on whom to start once Quinn Ewers gets healthy.
Steve Sarkisian applauds Arch Manning but doesn't discount Quinn Ewers from starting future games
Texas coach Steve Sarkisian has previously answered the debate that who'll be starting for Texas if both quarterbacks are available. The answer was Quinn Ewers.
But with Manning registering two victories on the bounce, has his answer changed? Not quite. But he was sure to applaud Manning for what he brings to the game.
"What a luxury to have a player of his caliber as our backup quarterback. We have two great players. We were able to get through this without having to put Quinn (Ewers) out there, and now he's got two more weeks to get himself healthy for the second half of the season," Sarkisian said after the game.
While Sarkisian doesn't clearly answer who's his starting quarterback going forward, he did hint that Quinn Ewers will be back after two weeks of rest. But of course, the starting QB will be under more pressure than ever, with Arch Manning nailing every chance he gets on the field.
