Quinn Ewers gets real on his relationship with American actor Matthew McConaughey: "It'd be cool to talk to him a little bit more"
Quinn Ewers opened up about his relationship with Hollywood icon Matthew McConaughey during a chat with Robert Griffin III on the podcast RG3 and The Ones.
McConaughey, a diehard Longhorns fan, was a familiar face at Texas games in the 2023 season, often seen hyping up the players on the sidelines.
When Griffin asked Ewers about his interactions with McConaughey, he responded:
"Oh shoot, it'd be cool to talk to him a little bit more, but you know, he's around every now and then. So I go up and say what's up, he's a cool dude." [42:50]
The Oscar-winning actor's passion for Texas football was in full view during the 2023 Sugar Bowl. He was also present on ESPN's broadcast covering action right from the gridiron.
Hollywood fever aside, Ewers will be expected to go full throttle in his third season at Texas under head coach Steve Sarkisian. Last season, he led Texas to a Big 12 championship and a College Football Playoff appearance, recording 3,479 passing yards and 22 touchdown passes.

Steve Sarkisian's effect over Quinn Ewers
Steve Sarkisian has certainly made a splash at Texas, engineering a successful season with quarterback Quinn Ewers leading the charge. Under Sarkisian's leadership, Texas boasts of one of the best quarterback rosters in the nation, featuring Arch Manning, Trey Owens, and Quinn Ewers.
His strategic use of the transfer portal and NIL has strengthened the team, bringing in former Alabama stars Amari Niblack and Isaiah Bond. Speaking to Robert Griffin III, Ewers praised Sarkisian's influence:
"Just him being in the position that we've been in, he played college quarterback, and then went to the Canadian League. So he obviously knows. He knows what it feels like to be in our shoes. And, you know, he said, I mean, we're getting a PhD in quarterback play here. [20:36]"
The 21-year-old also highlighted the cultural shift under Sarkisian:
"I mean, I think that he has brought a winning culture back to this university. And I think that's the main thing. [23:21]”
In Sarkisian's reign, Texas is poised to continue its rise in college football, driven by a culture of hard work and excellence.
