Quinn Ewers injury update: Steve Sarkisian shares status of Texas QB's health condition

Quinn Ewers came off the field in the second quarter of the Texas Longhorns' Week 2 victory over the UTSA Roadrunners. The quarterback fell against a cooler during a play, and backup Arch Manning came in for him.

Soon after the end of the first half, Texas coach Steve Sarkisian described the injury as an abdominal strain. On Sunday, Sarkisian said Ewers had an oblique strain

He said the following about the injury:

“We don’t think it’s anything structural or broken or things like that. It was an odd play, but again, that gave an opportunity for Arch to get some valuable playing time and experience.”

He also said this about Arch Manning's performance:

“For Arch to come in, you never know as a backup when you’re gonna get put in the game, for him to come in on his first play and hit DeAndre Moore for a touchdown or on his third play to be able to run a little bit of a different style of offense when he’s in there.
"The zone read to pull it in for the explosive play. Did some nice things for us and extended some drives on third down. So that was great experience for him that he got.”

It is unknown when Quinn Ewers will be able to return, but it is expected that the injury will be healed in a few weeks.

Quinn Ewers and Arch Manning's numbers in Week 3 against UTSA

Despite being on the field for less than half a game, Quinn Ewers threw for 185 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception. However, the spotlight fell on his backup, Arch Manning, whose fame so far has had more to do with his famous last name than his performances on the field.

But he got into the rhythm of things as if a veteran. On his first play, he threw a 19-yard touchdown pass. In the second drive, he ran for a 67-yard touchdown. Overall he recorded 223 yards, with four touchdown passes and no interceptions. He also ran for 53 yards, losing some of the 67 yards of his touchdown drive due to a sack later. He completed 75% of his passes.
