Quinn Ewers makes feelings known about Clemson's strengths as he gears up for crucial playoff clash
Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is locked in as the Longhorns prepare to host the Clemson Tigers in a pivotal first-round College Football Playoff matchup. Texas enter as the No. 5 seed after finishing as SEC runner-up, while Clemson are riding high following their ACC title win over SMU.
Ewers, who got some much-needed time off ahead of the showdown, acknowledged that the physical and mental reset was crucial.
“It was good, good to get some time off,” he said during the press conference.
However, when asked about Clemson, Ewers didn’t mince words:
“They fit the right gaps, they’re coached well, they play hard, and that creates challenge.”
Head coach Steve Sarkisian provided positive updates on Texas’ injury concerns, confirming that both Ewers and star left tackle Kelvin Banks Jr. were “good to go.” That’s great news for Texas fans as the team aims to capitalize on their home-field advantage and advance to the Peach Bowl.
Despite their higher seed, Texas must stay sharp against a surging Clemson squad. The Tigers may lack the star power of past seasons but remain well-drilled and tenacious opponents.
Texas’ dominant 34-3 win over Oklahoma and victories against Texas A&M prove their ceiling is sky-high. With Ewers healthy and confident, the Longhorns have a golden opportunity to punch their ticket to the semifinals.

Quinn Ewers can't wait for CFP matchup against Clemson
The stage is set for Ewers and the Longhorns in a first-round clash of the new 12-team College Football Playoff. For Ewers, the chance to play against Clemson at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium is a dream come true.
“It’s going to be awesome,” Ewers said in interview with Bleacher Report. “We’ve never experienced this, and DKR has never experienced this. It’s going to be rocking for a playoff game with a lot at stake.”
Texas missed an SEC Championship and first-round bye after losing to the Georgia Bulldogs. However, Ewers is ready for the challenge against a disciplined Clemson squad.
“They’ve been in a ton of big games, and they play really hard for their coach,” Ewers added.
The Texas QB1 also has a personal twist in the mix. He’ll face former high school teammate R.J. Mickens, now Clemson’s safety.
“It’s going to be a cool moment and experience with him for sure,” Ewers said.
This season has been a rollercoaster for Quinn Ewers. An oblique injury, inconsistency, and a not-so-great outing against Georgia in the championship game haven’t helped his draft stock. Yet, he led attacks that guided Texas to key wins over Vanderbilt, Florida, Arkansas, and rivals, Texas A&M.
