Quinshon Judkins 40 time: How fast is Ohio State RB?

Even among the ledger of NCAA football transfers, Quinshon Judkins was a particular standout. The Ole Miss star moved along to Ohio State in one of the most discussed moves of the college football offseason.

The Buckeyes already had standout back TreVeyon Henderson, but the chance to add Judkins proved irresistible to Ryan Day and company.

Ohio State has made good use of their talented backfield in a 3-0 start. In Saturday's win over Marshall, Judkins managed 173 rushing yards on just 14 carries, largely helped by an 86-yard scamper for a second-quarter touchdown.

He has picked up 336 yards on just 36 carries for the year. But here's more about Judkins' main skill-- impressive speed.

Judkins has been previously indicated to run a 4.49 second 40-yard dash. While that time isn't indicative of world-class speed, it is quite good. The annual NFL Draft combine usually produces a few sub-4.3 second 40-yard dash times, with the all-time bests settling in at around 4.21 seconds.

That said, Judkins' speed, particularly when combined with his 219 pounds, is certianly sufficient to make him a next-level prospect, as is his impressive production throughout his college career.

Quinshon Judkins player profile

Surprisingly, Judkins was not a particularly highly-regarded prospect out of high school. He played his high school football at Pike Road (Alabama) High and was ranked by 247Sports as a three-star prospect. Judkins was ranked as the No. 53 running prospect in the 2022 recruiting class. He visited Notre Dame and Ole Miss, and then chose the Rebels.

Judkins was an SEC star as a true freshman, amassing 1,567 yards and 16 touchdowns rushing in 2022. He actually led the SEC in rushing yardage that season and finished 7th in the NCAA.

Judkins' sophomore season was a bit less exciting. While he had almost as many carries (271, only three fewer than in 2022), he finished with 1,158 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns in 2023. His yards per carry dropped from 5.7 to 4.3, and he finished second in the SEC in rushing yardage.

While Quinshon Judkins was not a highly-touted high school prospect, when he chose to enter the transfer portal, there was significant excitement around his ultimate destination.

247Sports ranked him as the top transfer running back in the portal and the No. 9 overall player in the transfer portal class. Including Judkins, Ohio State nabbed three of the top nine players in the portal class.
