"Settle down" — Lane Kiffin's outburst gives CFB fans the perfect opportunity for trolling
The No. 19 Ole Miss Rebels (6-2, 2-2 Southeastern Conference) are looking to win on the road against the Arkansas Razorbacks (5-3, 2-2) in Week 10. Ole Miss has only four games remaining on their schedule and wants to win as many as possible to finish the season strong. In today's (Nov. 2) matchup, Rebels coach Lane Kiffin showed fans how important a win meant to him by chucking a football on the sideline.
In the first quarter, the Rebels offense was slow to build momentum and put points on the scoreboard. They were able to get close to the Razorback end zone but were unsuccessful in scoring a touchdown for a turnover on downs. The Rebels' defense was able to help the team get seven points with a fumble in the end zone. However, it didn't prevent Kiffin from being frustrated with how his team's offense was performing.
Ole Miss would get the ball back later in the first quarter but still had difficulty moving the chains. In one play, Rebels quarterback Jaxson Dart could not catch from the snap and had to improvise to avoid a fumble. He would throw it out of bounds into the hands of Kiffin. The Ole Miss coach took out his frustration on the bad offensive play from his team by throwing the football down the sideline toward an official.
After showing his frustration, fans quickly took to social media to criticize Kiffin and the Rebels' misfortune in the first quarter.
"Settle down Lane...It will okay buddy," a fan wrote
"This should be a delay of game penalty by Kiffin. He's such a child, he needs to be punished like one," another fan suggested.
"Classic Lane," a third fan commented.
"Jaxon Dart is the most overrated," a fan wrote criticizing Dart.
"I think it was a wet ball, and he wanted it out of the rotation," another fan speculated after Kiffin threw the football.
Lane Kiffin helps the Ole Miss regroup after a rough first-quarter
After struggling at the start of the game against the Razorbacks, Ole Miss' offense regrouped. The failures in the first quarter helped light a fire in the team to dominate Arkansas in the second quarter. The Rebels' defense held their opponents to a field goal while Dart threw four touchdowns to help the team lead the game 35-10 by halftime.
Kiffin kept his team focused after halftime, and the offense and defense overwhelmed the Razorbacks. In the third quarter, Ole Miss scored 21 points to extend their lead, making it difficult for Arkansas to get back on track. Although fans had their moment to make fun of Kiffin and Ole Miss, the Rebels were able to have the final laugh.
