Shannon Sharpe issues a word of caution to Deion Sanders & Colorado after a dominant win over Texas Tech
Hall of Fame NFL tight end-turned-pundit Shannon Sharpe appeared on the ‘Nightcap’ YouTube program with a word of caution for Colorado Buffaloes head coach, Deion Sanders after the team’s emphatic 41-27 victory last Saturday in Lubbock over the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
Sharpe was joined by Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson as the duo remarked how many were hoping for Sanders’ side to fail. Sharpe went a step further when looking at Colorado's upcoming schedule.
“Oklahoma State isn’t what they have been in the past couple of years, Utah isn’t what they’ve been in the past couple of years, (Iowa state), that doesn’t mean they cannot raise up and play above what they (have) been playing and beat you. You still have to bring your best package, your best pass-protection, your best run game, your best defense, and see what happens. I think Prime will have them ready to play.”
Texas Tech’s 23-22 win over Iowa State last week had many believing they could upset Colorado. However, the Buffaloes were able to overcome an early deficit and keep their Big 12 championship hopes alive.
Marcus “Doc” Holliday calls out Sharpe for ‘credit-deflecting’ Sander’s contribution
This is not the first time Sharpe has been critical of the Buffaloes and Sanders in particular. Former NFL player Marcus “Doc” Holliday has called out Sharpe for ‘credit deflecting’ Sanders' contribution to the team’s success, their first top-25 ranking this season, when Sharpe appeared on “First Take” with Stephen A. Smith.
In contrast to Sharpe, Smith duly credited Sanders, even saying him is deserving of ‘Coach of the Year’ honors for making the Buffaloes bowl-eligible, a first since 2016. However, Sharpe credited the Buffaloes’ coordinators instead. Holliday agreed with Smith that Coach Prime has indeed earned the praise.
