Shawn Clark, a former offensive lineman for Appalachian State (1994-98), joined the program as offensive line coach in 2016. He took over from Eli Drinkwitz as head coach before the New Orleans Bowl in 2019.

Moreover, his personality rights payment saw an annual increase of $15,000 following the deal in 2021. It jumped to $25,000 in increments each year after that, amounting to $260,000 for this season.

Shawn Clark's incentives tied to performance of student athletes on and off the field

Shawn Clark's restructured contract also includes incentives worth up to $455,000 a year if conditions are met.

As per College Football Network, if the team's APR (Academic Progress Rate) is equal to or greater to 950, he'll earn $20,000.

If the team GPA is above 3.0, then $12,500 and $7,500 if above 2.7. A 5% ticket sale increase will net him $15,000. If there is a Power 5 conference road game on schedule, he'll earn $20,000.00.

Assuming all these benchmarks are met, Shawn Clark could earn $1,405,020.
