Sherron Moore's Michigan Wolverines to host Indiana WR transfer for game against rival Michigan State Spartans
The 24th-ranked Michigan Wolverines and new coach Sherron Moore are honing in on recruiting and have been looking in the transfer portal for new additions.
Michigan Wolverines (4-2, 2-1 Big Ten) and 16th-ranked Indiana (6-0, 3-0) won't play until Nov. 19. But one of Indiana's players has entered the transfer portal and could be close to finding a new home.
Michigan to host Indiana transfer WR Donaven McCulley for a visit
Indiana transfer wide receiver Donaven McCulley declared for the transfer portal on Oct. 1. But this isn't his first time in the portal after doing so in November before withdrawing his request. Rivals reported that McCulley is visiting Michigan for its game against Michigan State on Oct. 26. He's rated as a three-star transfer portal prospect by 247sports.
McCulley spent about three-and-a-half years at Indiana from 2021 to 2024. He was a four-star quarterback prospect out of high school but changed to receiver after some time on the Hoosiers.
He recorded 68 catches for 849 receiving yards and eight touchdowns at Indiana. As a junior last season, he accumulated 48 catches for 644 yards and six TDs. But in the 2024 season, he's only totaled two catches for 21 yards and one score. Now, he's on the move.
McCulley is familiar with Michigan, being that he's played against them before as a part of Indiana's roster, but the Wolverines also offered him previously in the transfer portal recruiting cycle.
Michigan Wolverines' recruiting
Michigan coach Sherron Moore talked about the state of the team as it pertains to recruiting:
“This is a different era of football, and you’ve got to have forward thinking of what you’re doing. We’re compiling names and data, not only of college but high school, and trying to build it from the high school ranks to make sure we get a core foundation of that.
“I think we’re doing a good job with this (2025) recruiting class, and we’ll continue to bring in the pieces that we need to help immediately … to replace and do things and sustain the success that we need to get. So, he’s done a really good job managing the numbers and the roster.”
The Michigan Wolverines won the national championship last year but lost numerous players to the NFL.
