Sherrone Moore dodges Michigan sign-stealing question at Big Ten Media days, aims to "win big games" in 2024

Sherrone Moore has been named the head coach of Michigan Wolverines after the departure of Jim Harbaugh to the NFL. Moore served as interim head coach during Harbaugh’s suspension last season and led the Wolverines to victories over Penn State and Ohio State.

Moore’s appointment also comes as Michigan is facing an ongoing NCAA investigation into potential sign-stealing violations. On Thursday, during the Big Ten Media Days at Lucas Oil Stadium, Moore represented the Wolverines. He declined to comment on the matter and said that the program's focus is on the team and its upcoming season.

"As far as the NCAA, I'm not at liberty to comment about that. We're just really worried about what we have going on with our team and our football program, and we’ll go from there."

Despite the off-field challenges, Moore has set ambitious goals for the Wolverines, including Big Ten and national championships.

"Win the big games. Beat our rivals. Beat Ohio State. Win the Big Ten. Go to the College Football Playoff, and win it. For us, that's something we strive to do."

Michigan is under investigation for allegedly violating NCAA protocols by impermissibly scouting upcoming opponents in person. Former staffer Connor Stallions was implicated in purchasing tickets and boasting about a sign-stealing operation.

Sherrone Moore's ability to navigate both the NCAA investigation and the high expectations associated with the Michigan program will be crucial in 2024.

Sherrone Moore seeks Jim Harbaugh's advice for Michigan's future

Sherrone Moore has made it clear that he intends to lean heavily on the experience and guidance of his predecessor, Jim Harbaugh. The two coaches now maintain a close relationship and Moore often seeks advice from Harbaugh.

At the Big Ten Media Days, Moore talked about the value of Harbaugh's mentorship and described their interactions as open and honest. He expressed gratitude for Harbaugh's continued support and shared that he plans to tap into this resource frequently as this would be his first season as head coach.

"I just talked to him about two days ago and just continue to say to you, because it was working and it continues to work. So for me, he just, he's, he's always himself. He's always gonna just go and tell me the truth and I'll talk to him as often as possible.
"And he told me, you know, his phone's there and he's just waiting, waiting to be counted on so I'm excited to call them again soon."

Time will tell if Sherrone Moore can blend Harbaugh's philosophies with his own vision and lead the Wolverines to success in 2024.
