"Shoutout to prime for being a father figure": Deion Sanders earns CFB World's respect with a classy gesture toward Jimmy Horn Jr.
On Friday, ahead of their 52-0 final regular season victory against Oklahoma State, Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes celebrated Senior Day. One of the most moving moments of the day was Sanders' gesture with Jimmy Horn Jr. Horn's father is currently in prison, and he didn't have a parent to walk onto the field per the tradition.
Horn has stated several times that he sees Deion Sanders as a father figure, hence why he asked him to walk him onto the field. On walking Jimmy Horn Jr. onto the field, Sanders had this to say to the press on Friday:
"Jimmy is like my kid, I love him that much, we've talked about some personal things throughout his couple seasons here. I want to go with him Sunday to see his father as well. But he just turned around and asked me.
"So that's how that transpired. And I said, ‘You don’t have to ask me twice. I got you. I got you.'"
Coach Prime's gesture didn't go unnoticed by the fans, who commended the coach for this fatherly moment:
"Shout out to prime time being a father figure"
Even critics had to take a moment to show their respect to Deion Sanders:
"Respect 🫡 say what you want about him, but he cares about his players and leads them."
Many fans called Sanders a true leader:
"It's the little things like this, that make the biggest statement. Coach Prime is a leader of men. Should be hired as the Chicago Bears next coach."
His care stood out for fans:
"Coach Prime is good man. He truly does care about the young men he coaches."
Many were wondering how someone could not want to root for Sanders:
"still don't understasnd how people hate on Coach Prime"
"Sad ppl hate him so much. Blinded, not able to see the impact he makes on so many peoples lives, especially the young men on his team"
Deion Sanders is sure that Travis Hunter has done more than enough to win the Heisman Trophy
Colorado's regular season might be over, but there could still be more excitement ahead for the Boulder school. Travis Hunter is currently the frontrunner to win the Heisman, and according to Deion Sanders, he has already clinched it.
Here's what he said on Friday regarding Hunter's chances:
“Travis clinched the Heisman today with his performance, he’s the best player in college football. You can find ways to hate, criticize and condemn him and you won’t come out of that looking professional. Travis Hunter proved today, and he’s proved every week, that he is the best player in college football.”
Hunter recorded 116 receiving yards with three touchdowns on 10 receptions on Friday. He also recorded one interception.
The Heisman Trophy finalists will be announced on Dec. 9, and the final ceremony will take place on Dec. 14.
