"Smack talk has gotten soft since Nick Saban left": CFB fans troll Jalen Milroe as he claps back at Demarcus Riddick over dig at Ryan Williams
The Alabama Crimson Tide prepare to face the Auburn Tigers at the Iron Bowl this weekend. However, some fans think BAMA quarterback Jalen Milroe hasn't gotten into the spirit of things for this storied rivalry. A video surfaced on Tuesday showing Milroe dismissing comments made by Auburn's freshman linebacker, Demarcus Riddick.
Ahead of the Iron Bowl, Riddick told the press:
"He is a good quarterback. He's fast, but, I mean, he's not faster than me. He will not get out of that box this week."
When Milroe was asked about it, he bluntly said, via SI:
"I don't know who that is, I mean, let him talk. It's a part of it. It's all about executing what we need to do so we can be at our best this weekend. But, yeah, good on him."
Fans on the internet didn't think this was strong enough of a response.
In general, fans seem to miss Nick Saban.
"LOL, Nick Saban looking at what Husky Harsin has done to the program he built," a fan tweeted.
Other fans were surprised that Milroe didn't know Riddick.
Some fans did come to Jalen Milroe's defense.
"Hey Jalen, you deserve better than what your fans think of you," a fan tweeted.
"A lie saying he don’t know him," another fan tweeted.
Alabama's Kalen DeBoer addresses Jalen Milroe's failed tackle attempt on Saturday's loss to Oklahoma
Alabama's College Football Playoff case took a big toll on Saturday as the team fell to the Oklahoma Sooners 24–3. Midway through the fourth quarter, Milroe threw an interception to Oklahoma's Kip Lewis who converted it into a 49-yard pick-six, ending Alabama's hopes of comeback.
Fans criticized Milroe as he was Alabama's last player standing between the Sooner and the end zone. Kalen DeBoer spoke about the situation on Monday:
"He's got to find a way to get him out (of bounds). He's a good enough athlete to where, just either use the sideline or force the cutback," DeBoer said. "It's not something you spend a lot of time practicing. ... He's got to find a way to get him out of bounds. I trust Jalen to do a lot of things and I trust that he can get (the runner) down. But find a way. Find a way to get the defense out there. Find some way possible to hold them to a field goal."
Milroe had a bad game in Week 13, throwing for 164 yards, with no touchdowns and three interceptions. He was also sacked once. His QBR was a lowly 15.4.
