Texas QB Quinn Ewers shares glimpses of his Ann Arbor trip for Week 2 clash against Michigan (Photos)
Texas Longhorns quarterback Quinn Ewers helped his team win over last year's champions, the Michigan Wolverines, in their own backyard in Ann Arbor. The No. 2 Longhorns claimed a convincing 31-12 victory with Ewers leading from the front on Saturday.
On Monday, Ewers shared some photos from his trip to Michigan on Instagram. This included photos from the game, posing alongside running back Quintrevion Wisner and post-game photos:
"Fun to come play here and nice," Ewers wrote in the caption of his post.
Ewers had an excellent game on Saturday, leading his team from the front. He threw 24-of-36 passes for 246 yards and three touchdowns without any interceptions. He received good support from his receivers, like Gunnar Helm (seven receptions for 98 yards) and Isaiah Bond (three receptions for 51 yards):
“I enjoy big moments,” Ewers said postgame. “I think what helps me out is I’m not trying to please anybody. I’m not trying to please people who breathe one breath at a time. I’m just trying to please Jesus. He controls all breaths. And when you truly believe that, when you truly know that, I think I allow myself to fully play clear-minded.”
The game helped Steve Sarkisian's Longhorns elevate their rankings from No. 3 to No. 2, while Michigan slid from No. 10 to No. 17.
Quinn Ewers named SEC Offensive Player of the Week
In the biggest Week 2 matchup, Ewers asserted his dominance as his performance against Michigan Wolverines helped him earn SEC Offensive Player of the Week by the conference. His fellow teammate and offensive lineman center Jake Majors won SEC Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week.
Moreover, Ewers also won the "Manning Award Star of the Week." The QB1, who was on the preseason watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award, was also named to the "Great 8" quarterbacks list.
Amid the delight after the win, Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian pushed reality towards his players, saying to avoid a fate like Notre Dame after a big win. The Fighting Irish, who registered a 23-13 road win over then-No. 20 Texas A&M, suffered a 16-14 upset at the hands of Northern Illinois despite being a 28.5-point favorite last week (via ESPN.com):
"I showed them that clip of [Kanon Woodill's game-winning] field goal and I showed the clip of Northern Illinois storming the field this morning as a good reminder that we're entitled to nothing," Sarkisian said.
"We're capable of anything. We've got a really good team. But we're entitled to nothing. We're going to earn everything. And we've going to have to earn the victory here Saturday night," he added.
Ewers & Co. will next face the UTSA Roadrunners at home this Saturday.
