Texas State vs. Troy: Box score, stats and summary ft. Jordan McCloud
Texas State broke above .500 on the season with a 38-10 victory over the Troy Trojans. The win was keyed by four touchdowns (three in the air, one on the ground) from Texas State QB Jordan McCloud.
The Bobcats (3-2) are coming off an 8-5 season last year under coach G.I. Kenne, which took State to its first-ever bowl game. Texas State opened the 2023 season by winning at Baylor as a 27.5-point underdog. The Bobcats won their first two games of 2024 but then lost to Arizona State by three points and Sam Houston by a single point. McCloud threw a dozen touchdowns in State's first four games
The Trojans (1-5) have struggled under first-year head coach Gerad Parker, a former Notre Dame offensive coordinator. The Trojans' lone victory of the season to date was a 34-12 triumph over FCS foe Florida A&M. Troy opened the game with the No. 109 scoring offense in FBS, averaging just 21.4 points per game.

After one Troy first down to open the game, Texas State took over after a punt and drove 66 yards in eight plays. Ismail Mahdi capped the drive with a one-yard scoring run to give the Bobcats the lead with 9:35 still left in the opening quarter.
Near the end of the quarter, Texas State struck again, with a 64-yard drive being capped by a 10-yard scoring pass from McCloud to receiver Jaden Williams. The Bobcats then led 14-0.
Troy answered with a score early in the second quarter. The Trojans completed a five-play, 66-yard drive with a seven-yard score from Tommy Kilcrease to Mojo Dortch. But less than two minutes later, Texas State answered. After a roughing the punter penalty extended their drive, McCloud hit Kole Wilson with a 51-yard bomb. Troy answered with a field goal before McCloud found Joey Hobert with a 28-yard dart to take a 28-10 halftime lead.
Among the second-half highlights was a 53-yard field goal from Texas State kicker Mason Shipley. After a turnover on downs, McCloud scored on a 42-yard run to all but clinch the victory. Troy answered with a 19-yard scoring pass to Devonte Ross but never pulled closer than three scores.
Troy falls to 1-5 on the season and is off next week before playing South Alabama on the road on Oct. 15.
Texas State improved to 3-2 and will play Arkansas State at home next week.
