“These guys are hungry”: Colorado DC Robert Livingston sheds light on team’s mindset during off week
The Colorado Buffaloes have an off week this coming Saturday in Week 10, but it appears that their players have no intentions of letting their foot off the gas. On Wednesday, Colorado's defensive coordinator Robert Livingston said that the team underwent a vigorous practice session while shedding light on the players' mindset:
“We had a hell of a scrimmage today. That doesn’t happen everywhere. These guys are hungry and they want to play.”
The Buffs have been one of the most impressive teams this season. They most recently beat Cincinnati 34-23 in Week 9, which boosted them to be the No. 23 ranked team in the country by the AP Poll.
The Buffaloes also improved to a 6-2 overall record (4-1 in Big 12) following their win over the Bearcats, which ensured that they will play in a bowl game. The last time the Buffs got bowl eligibility was in the 2020 season, which was cut short by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Nonetheless, the Buffaloes are showing signs of improving under coach Deion Sanders, who is in his second season with the program. Last season, Coach Prime's side finished with an underwhelming 4-8 record, failing to qualify for a bowl game.
Colorado will aim to sneak into College Football Playoff heading into final stages of regular season
As things stand, Colorado is still on the wrong side of the College Football Playoff picture, despite posting a string of good results. However, the Buffaloes still have an outside chance of making the postseason if they finish the regular season on a high.
Since the College Football Playoff format has expanded to 12 teams, the Buffs are in contention to qualify as either the highest-ranked conference champion or by being one of the next seven highest-ranked teams. As things stand, BYU, Iowa State and Kansas State are the three teams ranked higher than Colorado in the Big 12.
With Heisman contenders, including Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter, the Buffs are a dark horse to make the playoffs.
However, it's also safe to say that the Buffaloes cannot afford to lose another game if they want to make the 12-team playoffs. Here's their schedule for the rest of the season:
- Nov. 2: Open week
- Nov. 9: at Texas Tech
- Nov. 16: vs. Utah
- Nov. 23: at Kansas
- Nov. 29: vs. Oklahoma State
