"This is just a step in the way": Vanderbilt QB Diego Pavia shares his ultimate goal after Alabama takedown
Diego Pavia and Vanderbilt pulled the biggest surprise on Saturday when they defeated the Crimson Tide 40-35. Now that the team has gained confidence and is 3-2 in the season, it is aiming to cruise through to the College Football Playoff.
Pavia said after the game, as per On3 Sports:
“I love Vandy. This is what I came here for. Came here to win big football games. Our ultimate goal is to go to the College Football Playoff, and so we want a chance at the national championship. Just how everyone else does. This is just a step in the way, and we just got to keep getting better. There’s still little mistakes out there that we got to clean up. But you know, any given Saturday, anything’s possible.”
Vanderbilt will have to win 12 games, play for the SEC Championship and then get to the College Football Playoff.
Diego Pavia apologizes after winning the Alabama game
After the Vanderbilt Commodores defeated the Alabama Crimson Tide, Pavia, talking to a reported, got a little too enthusiastic and said:
“It’s literally all god’s timing. Literally, from the jump. God gave me a vision when I was a little kid. And he don’t let back any promises. It’s god’s timeline. I’m super thankful. Super thankful for guys like Eli Stowers. Man, that kid’s are incredible. The rest of our team. I mean, look at this. Look at this. Vandy were f*****g turnt!”
After the game, Pavia went on X to apologize for "cussing."
"I’m sorry for cussing last night but, God you are the TRUTH AND ALL THE GLORY GOES TO YOU!! For yall that don’t know him, get to know him. HE IS MAGICAL."
The Vanderbilt starter transferred from New Mexico State and is playing his very first season as a lead shot-caller in the SEC. He finished 16 out of 20 passes for 252 yards and scored two touchdowns against Alabama. Pavia and the team will prepare to face the Kentucky Wildcats in Week 7 of college football.
