"This is WWE": Jason Whitlock takes a jab at Deion Sanders after disregarding Stephen A. Smith's pick
Deion Sanders has helped turn the Colorado Buffaloes program around. After finishing 1-11 in the year before he arrived and 4-8 last season, losing eight of their final nine games - they sit at 5-2 with a 3-1 mark in Big 12 play. While it is a long shot, they are still in the mix for the College Football Playoff with the 28th-best odds, +1200, in the nation.
Despite his success, Jason Whitlock took shots at 'Prime Time,' claiming he does not deserve to be named Coach of the Year.
He said:
"BYU is atop the Big 12. Colorado was picked 11th preseason, BYU was picked 13th. BYU is undefeated and atop the Big 12. Huh? Why wouldn't BYU's head coach have a better case for Coach of the Year than Deion Sanders? I'll give you another one. I believe the Big Ten is now 18 teams. You know who was picked 17th [in the] preseason? Indiana University."
Whitlock continued with a dig at analyst Stephen A. Smith:
"Indiana is undefeated - undefeated - in the top 25, probably ranked in the top 15 in the country right now, maybe top ten. Why wouldn't [Curt Cignetti] be the Coach of the Year? I know that Stephen A. Smith doesn't know any of this because he doesn't follow college football, but Paul Finebaum does. This isn't hard. This is another work. This is another WWE. Deion Sanders is a character in the sports world WWE movement so [at] 5-2, he gets graded on a curve."
While the BYU Cougars have had a better season than Colorado, they have also had much more success in recent years. Furthermore, despite suggestions that Sanders should be in the Coach of Year conversation, there is plenty of the season left before the award is handed out.
MC Hammer speaks on relationship with Deion Sanders
Several celebrities have attended Colorado Buffaloes games in Deion Sanders' two years leading the program. MC Hammer was the latest to show up at a game as they beat the Arizona Wildcats 34-7 in Week 8.
Speaking to Uncle Neely of Thee Pregame Show, he spoke on his relationship with the Buffaloes head coach:
"There's so many memories. We spent years and years going around the world together, going to places together, family going together. His father spent his last year on the road with me. I took him all around the world."
"we just got so many memories, so many things to talk about and we just keep that love real close. But I was so excited because, again, I've been watching him and the things that he's doing with Colorado. Very proud of him."
MC Hammer added that his former head dancer, Alonzo Carter, is now an assistant coach with the Wildcats. He noted that the two were on his record label at the same time in the 1990s.
