Travis Hunter injury: Deion Sanders offers important update on Colorado star’s status
The Colorado Buffaloes have been playing well this season and a major part of their success has been due to the play of two-way star Travis Hunter. He suffered a shoulder injury against the Kansas State Wildcats two weeks ago but played in the first half of Saturday's game against the Arizona Wildcats before being pulled for the entire second half.
Coach Deion Sanders discussed Hunter's progress, indicating that he is expected to be available for the Week 9 game against the Cincinnati Bearcats.
"I think he will contribute more than he did a week ago, because he's healthier," Deion Sanders said.
The statement follows what Sanders said after the game, where he said that Hunter wanted to play.
"Sore and banged up. Travis wanted to play. I don't know if he was quite 100-percent ready, but a half of Travis is a whole of somebody. So you got to understand, it affects us on two sides of the ball. But he went out there and showed face and tried his best to do what he's capable of doing." h/t ESPN
Can Travis Hunter win the 2024 Heisman Trophy?
After Travis Hunter was injured during the Kansas State game and missed more than a half of action and then missed the second half in the following week, his odds of winning the 2024 Heisman Trophy dropped significantly. He was neck-and-neck with Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty at the time of the injury and now is falling into the rest of the pack.
According to the most recent 2024 Heisman Trophy odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, these are the top five odds for the award.
- Ashton Jeanty (Boise State) +220
- Cam Ward (Miami FL) +250
- Dillon Gabriel (Oregon) +380
- Cade Klubnik (Clemson) +1600
- Travis Hunter (Colorado) +2000
While there is still a lot of time left to get back into the conversation, injuries and the ability to sit out and rest up is going to keep Travis Hunter from staying in the Heisman conversation.
