"Travis Hunter playing on the offense is a gimmick": Jason Whitlock drops eye-catching remarks as he hails Colorado's real hero

Shedeur Sanders or Travis Hunter? Hunter is the name everyone seems to fixate on, with the two-way starter mesmerizing the nation by playing both defense and offense for the Buffaloes. He is likely to win the Heisman Trophy given his production.

However, pundit Jason Whitlock believes people are looking at the wrong guy when thinking of Colorado's most importnat player. Here's an excerpt of his show Tuesday.

"The most important player on Colorado’s roster is named Shedeur Sanders, not Travis Hunter. Without him, you’re looking at a 6-4 team instead of an 8-2. Hunter playing offense is a gimmick to win him the Heisman. He’s not needed on offense. They have enough talented receivers."

Travis Hunter's numbers on offense in 2024 for Colorado

Despite what Whitlock might think, Hunter has managed to rack up some impressive numbers on offense. He has 74 catches for 911 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. He's averaging 12.3 yards per catch.

With those numbers, he's clearly the lead receiver in the Buffs receiving corps. LaJohnthay Wester is the one closest to him with 660 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. However, he does have considerably fewer receptions with 55.

Shedeur Sanders' numbers for Colorado

Shedeur Sanders, Whitlock's most important player on Colorado's roster, has 3,222 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. He came in at eighth in the most recent Heisman Trophy poll.

Sanders still shows, as Whitlock pointed out, an inability to get rid of the ball fast enough at times. That paired with the lack of protection the offensive line affords him has led to 31 sacks.
