Travis Hunter's mom drops two-word message as Colorado star's younger brother enjoys a breakout season
Colorado Buffaloes two-way star Travis Hunter has made a name for himself with his excellent play on both sides of the ball and is the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy this season. Hunter has been touted as a high first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft by ESPN, in part due to his ability to play both sides.
The Buffs star has a younger brother, Trayvis Hunter, who is also excelling on the gridiron and is poised to join college football in the class of 2027.
The younger Hunter plays for Effingham County, Georgia after transferring from Collins Hill. He has registered 496 yards and six touchdowns on 36 receptions this season and has led his team to the Class AAAAA playoffs.
Travis Hunter's mother, Ferrante Harris, reposted a graphic of her two sons on her Instagram stories.
"Proud mother," she wrote.
According to MaxPreps, Trayvis Hunter's production exploded as the regular season came to a close tallying 331 yards and five touchdowns in his last three games.
The impact of Hunter's mom on his career
Travis Hunter was a five-star prospect in the class of 2021 and he surprised the college football world when he decommitted from the Florida State Seminoles to join coach Deion Sanders at Jackson State.
During an episode of the "Richard Sherman" podcast, Hunter revealed how his mother assessed the family-oriented environment around Sanders allowing him to play for the charismatic coach at Jackson State.
“My family felt comfortable first before he (Sanders) even made me feel comfortable," Hunter said. "So my mom was just like, yeah, I think this is the best deal for us to go learn for somebody that actually did it, even though my mom don't watch football, she know who Coach Prime is.
"So it was kind of crazy just how he kept his family around, like having Shedeur as his quarterback Shiloh standing around, his oldest son Bucky standing around, his daughters are standing around. It's just like, it's family oriented and that's exactly what I wanted to be and I wanted to learn from somebody like that.”
Travis Hunter has repeatedly revealed his special bond with coach Sanders and the role he has played in his career as a father figure. The link-up between Colorado's two-way star and Coach Prime might not have happened had his mother not approved of his controversial move at the time.
