“Turnover prone QB?”: CFB Fans pull up receipts over Carson Beck-Cam Ward debate
Quarterbacks Cam Ward and Carson Beck have caused a debate among fans about who is the better player this season. Both are finishing their final college football season and will enter the 2025 NFL draft. On the Nov. 20 episode of ESPN's 'Get Up', college football contributor Paul Finebaum had an issue with the Georgia Bulldogs being ranked 10th in the College Football Playoffs Rankings.
The college football committee decided to rank the No. 8 Miami Hurricanes (9-1, 5-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) ahead of Georgia (8-2, 6-2 Southeastern Conference) on Nov. 19. Finebaum shared that the Bulldogs should be placed higher in the rankings.
"This committee is not serious. There are football coaches on this committee, and there is no way those football coaches can tell me or anyone else with a straight face that they really think Indiana, Penn State, Miami, schools like that are better than Georgia. It's not possible," Finebaum said.
This tussle between the two programmes quickly took the shape of a comparison between their QBs.
Fans react to Paul Finebaum's reaction to Georgia Bulldogs rankings, igniting Ward-Beck debate
On3 shared Finebaum's comments on X, which sparked a debate in their comments about whether Georgia should be ranked higher than other teams like Miami.
"I don't care what nobody thinks.. Georgia is better than Indiana, Penn State, and Miami. If you disagree, then you don't know ball. Miami has a highly touted turnover prone QB, Penn State has a solid Edge Rusher Abdul Carter (who I'm a huge fan of btw but his team not good), and Indiana is a team with a fluke record," a fan wrote.
Another fan commented by comparing Ward and Beck's stats for the season.
"Turnover prone QB" ????," a fan wrote in response.
Cam Ward has completed 241 passes for 3,494 yards and has 32 touchdowns. He is also one of the players competing for the Heisman Trophy.
Carson Beck has had a difficult season in comparison, with 235 passes completed for 2,835 yards and 19 touchdowns. Ward also has six interceptions less than Beck.
The fan responded, acknowledging that Beck has struggled with turnovers, but doubled down on Ward having the same issue.
"I'm not a Georgia fan but I do know Georgia would beat Miami. And you missed out the part when I said "Highly Touted". Never once I said Carson Beck wasn't turnover prone.," the fan wrote back.
Other fans commented on Georgia's placement in the college football playoff rankings.
Then why play the games?? Georgia can't handle their business. Indiana, Miami, and Penn St. have," a fan wrote criticizing Georgia.
"You're not serious right?? Who has more than half of the teams in the playoff rankings even played so far. You can even add Texas and Notre Dame to that list as well. Most teams have not played a serious schedule. Georgia has played a very tough schedule," another fan commented.
Miami and Georgia are in action this Saturday for Week 13. Cam Ward and Carson Beck will have another opportunity to prove who the better quarterback is this season.
