UCF vs. Colorado game weather update: CFB insider shares positive news for Big 12 showdown amid cancellation scare
UCF and Colorado are apparently good to play on Saturday. With Hurricane Helene battering the southeastern United States, many football games have already been rescheduled or canceled. But there are indications that the pivotal Big 12 showdown between the Golden Knights and Buffaloes is ready to play.
UCF-Colorado likely to play Saturday
Given the impact of Hurricane Helene, Saturday's Colorado at UCF matchup looked to potentially be in trouble. After all, UCF is located in Orlando, Florida, located near both the Gulf of Mexico and the Atlantic Ocean. The state of Florida has experienced significant impact from the Hurricane.
However, indications are that the worst of the storm is past. Many are indicating that the game on Saturday is ready to roll.
Other games have been canceled or are in jeopardy
Appalachian State was set to host a game with Liberty, but the fallout from the Hurricane in Boone, North Carolina resulted in the game being canceled. The athletic departments have indicated that the game will not be rescheduled. Liberty has indicated a willingness to pursue a replacement game, as playing one less game could hurt their College Football Playoff situation.
Several other lower-division games have already been canceled. Florida A&M and Alabama A&M are two FCS teams who have canceled their game. Meanwhile, other games, like Clemson vs. Stanford and Miami vs. Virginia Tech, are still uncertain.
Weather cancellation history
Florida schools have a long history of weather-related cancellations. For instance, the University of Florida had games canceled in both 2016 and 2017 due to hurricane-related weather issues. Miami and Florida State have also been impacted by weather concerns.
This weekend, Florida has an open week, so its season should not be impacted. Florida State is playing at SMU and as long as the Seminoles can make their way to Texas, their game should not be implicated.
Colorado at UCF matchup
Colorado is 3-1 heading into Saturday's potential game. The Buffaloes held off North Dakota State in the opener and then managed a last-play miracle to get to overtime and eventually beat Baylor. Shedeur Sanders and Colorado remain a major national story this season.
Meanwhile, UCF has been an under-the-radar 3-0 starter. The Golden Knight played two easy games in the first two weeks then edged TCU on the road in a 35-34 battle. Former Arkansas QB KJ Jefferson leads the UCF attack.
UCF is a 14.5-point favorite heading into the game. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 Eastern kickoff on FOX.
