USC Trojans marching band and cheerleaders light up 4th of July with Cardi B's "I Like It"
The Catalina Island Company and the City of Avalon brought back the USC Trojans marching band to the Catalina Casino for a special Fourth of July concert on Thursday. The band and cheerleaders, dressed in the University of Southern California’s iconic colors, lit up the evening with a spirited performance of Cardi B's "I Like It."
Island visitors had a great time, knowing that $10 from each ticket went toward the band's travel expenses, per Catalina's website. The ticket also included a classic Americana buffet, adding to the festive atmosphere.
"Trojan Football fan" on X shared the lively 29-second clip on X (formerly Twitter), capturing the Independence Day celebration.
After the concert, guests enjoyed the annual fireworks display over Avalon Bay, viewing it from the Casino’s Ocean Promenade.
On July 5, fans can join the First Friday's event, Mixology at the Museum with Adam Wild, as they celebrate the talent of USC students, faculty, and alumni. There’s a unique happy hour at the museum with no admission fee from 5 to 7 pm on the first Friday of each month.
The USC Trojans football team, founded 136 years ago in 1888, is currently led by coach Lincoln Riley. The Spirit of Troy marching band proudly plays its official fight song, "Fight On," during the season.
USC Trojans' Lincoln Riley faces considerable pressure
Jesse Simonton of On3 recently released his "Pressure Rankings" for the 2024 season in the Big Ten, placing USC Trojans coach Lincoln Riley, who is heading into his third season, second in terms of pressure, just behind Ohio State's Ryan Day.
According to Simonton, despite Riley's past success at Oklahoma Sooners, where he's considered one of the top coaches yet to win a national title, his tenure at USC hasn't shown signs of meeting that expectation. The team's trajectory under Riley has been disappointing so far.
Reportedly, despite making strategic defensive hires this offseason, the Trojans’ performance hasn't matched the high expectations set when coach Riley was hired from the Sooners.
