Utah to ACC gains momentum in conference realignment world as CFB insider speculates potential transition of schools from Big 12 expansion
The age of conference realignment is here and there are some potential moves that are gaining momentum. One of them includes a school that is yet to play a single game with their new conference in the University of Utah.
The school is joining the Big 12 Conference beginning in the 2024 college football season but there is the thought that it could be on the move once again as Utah to ACC is getting some more momentum.
Legendary sportswriter Dick Weiss posted how Utah to the Atlantic Coast Conference is getting some speculation but there is still some skepticism around the move:
"Speculation is circulating about potential shifts in college sports conferences. There is discussion about Utah possibly moving to the ACC despite its recent move to the Big 12, with some suggesting the ACC might be a better fit due to its ESPN network agreement and potential for increased TV value.
"However, skepticism exists regarding the stability and attractiveness of the ACC compared to the Big 12."
This would be an interesting conference realignment but something that the Atlantic Coast Conference would love to have as its future is questionable at best with the ongoing legal battle with the Clemson Tigers and Florida State Seminoles.
What would Utah to ACC mean for conference realignment?
Utah to ACC seems to be a potential move that the conference could use right now and would be a massive boost. This would help create a hub for the west coast with teams such as the Stanford Cardinal, California Golden Bears and Southern Methodist Mustangs for the conference.
This would also be a better situation for the health of the conference. Unfortunately, the Atlantic Coast Conference does not seem to be an attractive landing spot compared to the Big 12 Conference.
While this move would make some significant waves in the world of conference realignment, it seems unlikely that the Utah Utes would head to the Atlantic Coast Conference as it is in a dire state compared to what they are joining in the Big 12 Conference.
But again, while it is not probable, the possibility certainly exists.
