Utah starting QB 2024: Kyle Whittingham breaks silence on Utes' QB1 at Big 12 Media Days

There were a lot of questions about the Utah starting quarterback situation heading into the Big 12 Media Days. So, who will be under center when they host the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Aug. 29 inside Rice-Eccles Stadium?

Utah coach Kyle Whittingham shared quarterback Cameron Rising will start at quarterback while discussing transfer wide receiver Dorian Singer's impact.

"If we keep him upright, we'll do OK," Whittingham said (via ESPN).

Rising had injured his knee during the 2023 Rose Bowl against the Penn State Nittany Lions. He had torn his ACL, MCL, MPFL and meniscus and was a medical redshirt throughout last season.

Rising will enter his sixth season and is looking to prove he can still play at his dominant level. He has gone 456 of 712 (64.0%) for 5,572 yards with 46 touchdowns to 14 interceptions. He has run 152 times for 953 yards (6.3 yards per attempt) with 12 touchdowns.

What will Cameron Rising look like as the Utah starting QB in 2024?

The Utah Utes are entering the Big 12 this season. They are ready to get Cameron Rising back into the fold after a year without him as the team's starting quarterback. The quarterbacks last season struggled, throwing for 15 touchdowns to 11 interceptions as a group. The offense failed to find its footing as it was 120th in passing yards (165.8) and 101st in points per game (23.2).

The program has the defense to dominate. Further, Rising has proven he is a solid quarterback who can lead the team to the Big 12.

With the NCAA Transfer Portal additions and a decent Class of 2024 recruiting class, the Utah Utes look good heading into their first season in the Big 12.
