Virginia vs. Notre Dame: Box score, stats, and summary feat. Riley Leonard (Week 12)

The eighth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to dominate at home as they were able to secure a 35-14 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers on Saturday. This game was decided by halftime and the Fighting Irish seemingly took their foot off the gas pedal. Running back Jeremiyah Love ran in a pair of touchdowns while quarterback Riley Leonard threw for three touchdowns.

The Cavaliers (5-5) are still looking to get going but they were just completely outmatched in this game. They still need one more victory to become bowl eligible. The Fighting Irish (9-1) are looking to lock themselves into the fifth seed in the College Football Playoff as they continue to win games and cannot earn a bye due to not winning a conference championship.

Let’s take a closer look at the box scores and discuss how the game went.

Virginia vs. Notre Dame Game Summary

The Virginia Cavaliers struggled a bit offensively as they had 15 total first downs and posted 300 total yards of offense (172 passing, 128 rushing). The offense struggled as they committed five turnovers (three interceptions, two fumbles lost).

The team was still able to run the ball for 4.0 yards per carry but only had 4.8 yards per pass. The Cavaliers need to figure out how to be more consistent offensively going forward.

The Notre Dame Fighting Irish were able to do well despite going 1-of-12 on third downs as they were 3-of-4 on fourth downs and dominated all around. The team had 448 total yards of offense (214 passing, 234 rushing) and was extremely balanced.

The Fighting Irish ran for 6.2 yards per carry while Riley Leonard looked sharp with three passing touchdowns. It was not all great though as the Fighting Irish had a pair of turnovers themselves (one interception, one fumble lost) and committed nine penalties.
