Pat McAfee praises Illinois' offense led by Pat Bryant before Penn State game
When the Illinois Fighting Illini played against the Penn State Nittany Lions on Sept. 28, Pat McAfee excitedly discussed the team's offense on "College GameDay." He said:
"Two wide receivers from the transfer portal — Pat Bryant, Zakhari Franklin — they're doing it all. And on the defensive side, they've been able to win games, obviously. Two weeks ago against Kansas, they give up 186 (yards) on the ground.
"Look out Penn State, get moving. Then against Nebraska last week, they get a win — 297 (yards) through the sky for (Nebraska quarterback Dylan) Raiola. (Penn State quarterback) Drew Allard can do his thing.
"This Illinois team is going to be tested, but I think they're kind of built for it. 19-and-a-half-point dogs, I think that's where Bielema wants this team going into Happy Valley."
Pat Bryant is not a transfer, which McAfee later corrected on the show. The Illini lost the game against Penn State, and the team did not play this week because of its first of two bye weeks of the season. Next week it will face the Purdue Boilermakers.
Bryant has 22 receptions with 342 yards and six touchdowns in the 2024 college football season so far. With the Fighting Illini making their way to Week 8, Bryant and his teammates will prepare to face the Ryan Walters-led Purdue.
